::: GOOD DEEDS BRING GOOD OPPORTUNITY :::
John Anderson of Gasline Mechanical in Snohomish, Washington, recently performed a good deed that, at the same time, gave his technicians a unique training opportunity.
Dennis Jones of Airefco, Gasline's Carrier distributor, contacted Anderson about helping out a gentleman whose furnace had been red tagged by the gas company, meaning he could not use the furnace until it was repaired.
"The man was recovering from cancer, which had forced him to retire, so he didn't have a lot of money," Anderson relates. "He was hoping to buy replacement parts and make the repairs himself. Since Airefco is a distributor and couldn't sell the parts to him, they referred him to us."
Anderson offered to do more than sell him parts: He offered to repair the furnace, using the opportunity as a training exercise for his technicians. Along with his field foreman, Rob Osborne, Anderson completely disassembled and repaired the furnace during a three-hour session attended by 12 of Gasline's technicians.
The fully restored furnace was delivered to the owner's home. He was charged only for the cost of the parts and a small fee to process some paperwork. "It was a win-win situation," Anderson says. "My techs got a unique training opportunity, and we were able to help somebody in need."
